Ride a Cock Horse

illustration by Eloise Wilkins

When C was little, I memorized nursery rhymes and poems to sing or recite to her when she was on the changing table. Of course, Ride a Cock Horse was a favorite. It is such a boppy little rhyme and works well for bouncing a child on ones shoulders while one pretends to be a horse. Oh the squeals and giggles of delight.

Ride a cock horse to Banbury Cross,
To see a fine lady upon a white horse;
With rings on her fingers and bells on her toes
She shall have music wherever she goes.

I found out when I researched the rhyme that a hobby horse is a valid interpretation of the rhyme.
